What Type Of Bird To Choose

IMG_20130502_154916_199

This is my first time owning a bird. I have learned a lot in such a short period of time. Sunny is sitting here on my shoulder right now nibbling my ear :) .

What type of bird would be good for a first time owner? I say a Parakeet. It so easy to care for and train. The only bad thing is that they take a little bit of time to feel comfortable and come out of their cage to get some exercise. Another good starter bird is a Cockatiel. They are so nice. My neighbor owns one. That’s where I first got my idea of getting a bird. I was so happy I met their bird otherwise I would never have met this beautiful bird Sunny.

Justin – What a great bird! I agree that a Cockatiel is another great choice. When I first moved to Arizona I got one and it would sit on my shoulder while I took my morning walk around the neighborhood. I don’t know what kept him from flying away but he never did. He was pretty easy to take care of and my boys loved to interact with him.

    • Thats very cool! im actually getting a cockatiel on friday! i cant wait im so excited.

        Justin,

I agree. Both are great choices as family pets.

I’ve owned both, but never at the same time. It’ll be interesting to see how (or even if) they interact with one another. Are you getting a separate cage for the cockatiel? (just in case)

        • i have them both at the same time. They are not going to be in the same cage at one time. So of course i had to buy a bigger cage a post about the cockatiel is coming soon. :)
